Ever since the LaFerrari was launched, rumors about a convertible version started floating around. Well, around half a year ago they actually announced it and a few months ago the car was showcased for the first time. At this point, not much is known about the upcoming new car – 2018 Ferrari LaFerrari Convertible. However, it is safe to assume that it will be pretty much identical to the regular coupe in terms of performance and features. The differences will come from its roof and likely the weight which should increase slightly. On top of that Ferrari also said that the LaFerrari convertible will be called the Aperta.
2018 Ferrari LaFerrari Redesign
This new car comes with both soft and optional, removable carbon-fiber hard tops. The company claims that with the top off and the windows raised, the Aperta has no more aerodynamic drag than the coupe, in part because of two new, L-shaped flaps at the upper corners of the windshield.
A number of other modifications have been made to alter airflow. The angle of the radiators has been changed to redirect exiting hot air from over the hood to along the underbody. A duct has been added to channel air from the grille over the hood to add downforce. Aiding in the same effort are a larger front spoiler and lowered underbody surfaces.
2018 Ferrari LaFerrari Price
This is a rather interesting name because it has been used on only their most exclusive cars. The LaFerrari doesn’t break the norm as it will be built in less than 500 units. Also, because the demand is so high, Ferrari will price it from nearly $3.7 million which is $2.2 million more than what the LaFerrari was when it was launched. This massive price hike will certainly assure people that the car is not going to get any cheaper. On top of that, just like before, in order to be given the chance to buy one people will have to own a really impressive collection of cars.
2018 Ferrari LaFerrari Engine
Because the car is nothing more than just regular LaFerrari with an electric roof, the engine should be the same. The 2017 Ferrari LaFerrari Convertible will feature the same 6.3 liters naturally aspirated V12 as the coupe. Also, it is worth mentioning that the car will remain a hybrid. This means that an electric motor will aid the rear wheels when the petrol engine will be low on torque. The end result will be 950 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. This is a highly impressive number, especially for a car under 3,000 pounds. Even though Ferrari didn’t release any performance numbers, we are quite sure it will be similar to the usual coupe. Expect a 0 to 60 MPH time of fewer than 3 seconds and a top speed in excess of 210 MPH.
The most impressive fact about it will be the electric system, though. The KERS system will be identical to that in Formula 1. This will store energy from braking and use the normal V12 and it will be able to boost the power instantly.
2018 Ferrari LaFerrari Release Date
The delivery date is unknown at this point but it seems that the 2018 Ferrari LaFerrari Convertible should hit showrooms in early 2018. At this point, it still is unclear how many cars Ferrari is going to build. Considering the massive price and the fact it is convertible, we do expect less than 200 units of the Aperta to ever be made.
